College is a Must

By: Emily S.

Can you say, “Do you want fries with that?” Most jobs in America require more than just a high school diploma. In fact, there are teenagers all over the United States that refuse to go to college. The annual income for someone with a college degree is about sixty percent higher than someone with only a high school diploma. If you are going to waste all those years in high school, what’s another four years in college where everything really counts?

College graduates experience many other everyday life benefits, ranging from greater health insurance coverage and better housing to longer life expectancy and greater participation in leisure activities. Forty percent of ninth graders in 2009 will either drop out of school before completing high school or lack the needed skills for employment. “College is very important. It will guarantee a better job besides than minimum wage. I started to work as soon as I got out of high school. But once I had my children I stopped working. My husband was the sole provider and money was very tight,” said Sharon Johnson, a parent who didn’t go to college.

By the1970s, the United States’ industry was overshadowed by a fast developing service economy that depended on a more diverse set of skills that preferred workers with a higher education. “Statistics show that a person with a college education makes more money in their life than some one without one. Basically, going to college is very important in helping you to find a good job. If you want to have an economically sufficient life college would be a start decision to make,” said an employee from the United States Census Bureau.

In about ten years from now, there’ll be more than six million new and replacement job openings that will require strong math and science skills. Technical jobs employ the most educated workers; roughly eighty-six percent have at least some college education. Nearly 35 percent of the new job growth is likely to occur among jobs requiring college degrees – Associate’s, Bachelor’s, Master’s, Doctoral and Professional degrees.

It’s imperative to attend college if you want to have a good future. It will be very beneficial to you when you apply for a job. If you miss out on this wonderful chance of having a magnificent future and life, it would be a major lapse of judgment that you will regret forever.

By the way.....Hi Mommy!!!!!! I love you!!!!!!!!!!
