Girls Varsity and Junior Varsity Basketball Games

By: Krystal R.

GATOR GIRLS!!!!!!! Girls Varsity and Junior Varsity Basketball had games on December 19, 2007. Both teams went up against Parkville High School.  Junior Varsity won 45 to 10. Varsity girls played a very close game, but unfortunately lost with a final score of 43 to 44.

Junior Varsity Coach Ms. Fischer feels that the girls will have a good season. There are 12 players on a team and they have 14 games this season that they need to play. These girls have played so many games and are doing well. The girls have gone undefeated in the past few games; their current record is 4-0. They want to go to the county championship and they plan on winning. Ms. Fischer trains the girls hard and rigorous. She has the girls do lots of long distance running mixed with sprinting work in the weight room. The Junior Varsity captain is Kayla B.

Varsity Coach Mrs. Caccavalla also believes that the girls will have a good season. Mrs. Caccavalla is assisted by Coach Brajevich who helps with training. Mrs. Caccavalla though trains her girls fairly. She gives them an opportunity to create on the court, meaning if they see an opening to just go for it. They also get a chance to play through their mistakes; they get a chance to correct themselves. Varsity has 13 players and has had five games in three weeks. The girls have won 2 and lost 3 games.  Varsity captains are Shay K., Marge B., Rachel S., and Laura G.

Both of these coaches believe that academics are most important and it comes before sports. The players need to maintain C’s or higher to stay on they team. The players could also get pre-tested, or could get tutored by the other team mates to stay on the team.

I asked Varsity Captain Rachel S. how well she gets along with the other team members. “We get along really well; most of us hang out outside of school. It’s a lot of fun and it makes the game that much better.” I also asked if she has any problems with the other players. “Nope, we haven’t had any problems at all with the team, but I feel were close enough to talk about it if we did,” Rachel S. says.

Both teams are doing their best to get to the championship. We should go and give them support and hope that they reach their goal.
