October 17, 2007 The Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) is a standardized test that prepares students for the SAT Reasoning Test. Although, students in grades 9-11 are encouraged to take the test, scholarship eligibility is only associated with the PSAT taken in the 11th grade. The PSAT/NMSQT measures: Ø critical reading skills Ø math problem-solving skills Ø writing skills The PSAT/NMSQT includes five sections (2 hours and 10 minutes): Ø Two 25-minute critical reading sections Ø Two 25-minute math sections Ø One 30-minute writing skills section Accommodations: Students with documented disabilities and an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) may be eligible for College Board accommodations. You must complete an eligibility form Instructions for Completing the Student Eligibility Form (.pdf/209 K) to initiate the approval process. Documentation must be on file for requested accommodations. It is recommended that you apply far in advance to ensure approval by desired test date. The process takes approximately 6-8 weeks. Contact your child’s special education case manager for an application. Mrs. Eckels in the Counseling Office will process accommodation forms for PHHS once they are completed.
